Help in English, from the first call
Lots of our customers have just moved to Copenhagen for work or study. We know the questions, because we hear them every week: Why are there no lights? Can I drill in a rental? Who fixes the wobbly IKEA wardrobe? You can call, write and book in English, and the person who comes to your door speaks English too.
HandymanKøbenhavn is run by Better Call Bob ApS, a Copenhagen team of handymen and women. When you call, you’ll often speak to Henrik. At your place it’s him or one of his colleagues – with the same prices, insurance and follow-up.
Your move-in list, done in one visit
- Ceiling lamps: Danish flats are usually rented without light fittings. We connect your lamps to the ceiling outlets in every room.
- Furniture: We assemble IKEA and JYSK furniture and take the boxes away.
- Curtains and blinds: Many Danish windows come bare. We put up rails, rods and blinds.
- Walls: Pictures, mirrors, TV brackets and shelves fixed properly to concrete, brick or plasterboard.
- Small fixes: Sticking doors, loose handles, crooked cabinet doors and whatever else the previous tenant left behind.
Henrik’s tip: Book us for the day after your furniture is delivered. Leave the boxes in the rooms where things should go, and we’ll have you sleeping in a real bed, under a real lamp, by the evening.
A few Danish words that help
| Danish | What it means |
|---|---|
| Lampeudtag | The ceiling outlet where your lamp is connected |
| Eltavle / relæ | Fuse box / circuit breaker |
| Gips | Plasterboard – needs special wall plugs |
| Indflytningsrapport | Move-in report on the flat’s condition |
| Fraflytningssyn | Move-out inspection with the landlord |
| Moms | VAT – always included in our prices |
Renting? What about the holes?
In most Copenhagen rentals you can hang pictures, shelves and lamps as part of normal use. For bigger changes, such as a heavy TV bracket or a lot of shelving, it’s a good idea to ask your landlord first. Your lease has the final word.
Take photos of the walls when you move in, and write any damage in your move-in report. It makes the move-out much easier.
Moving out: get ready for the inspection
At the move-out inspection (fraflytningssyn) the landlord checks the flat against its condition when you moved in. We can help you get it back in shape before the inspection:
- Take down shelves, brackets, curtain rails and lamps
- Fill, sand and touch up drill holes
- Adjust doors, cabinet doors and loose fittings
- Take apart furniture that has to go with you or be collected
